What it looks like
Turning » Cruyff turn
How?
“The Cruyff turn is a clever trick to make the opposition think you’re about to pass the ball forwards when you’re actually turning with it. As you approach your opponent with the ball, position your body to feign a cross or shot. Then drag the ball with your foot behind your standing leg. Turn and move off in the opposition direction while the opponent is left wrong-footed.”
Why?
“This is a good trick for losing your opponent. Say you’re dribbling down the wing and a member of the opposition is approaching head-on, you can do a Cruyff turn at the last minute, just when she thinks you’re about to pass forwards or try to dribble on. The Cryuff turn is a form of dummy, so don’t overuse it during a game. If the defender ‘reads’ your move, she will be able to take the ball off you.”
