What it looks like
Passing » Drive passing
How?
“A drive pass involves kicking the ball with enough strength to get past an opponent. The ball generally stays low on the ground, but travels a long way if nobody stops it. To execute a drive pass, you need to use your instep and drive through the ball, using all your weight to power the pass. It sometimes helps to keep your arms apart for balance, and to take a few steps' run-up (perhaps during dribbling) before you make contact with the ball.”
Why?
The drive pass, if kicked sufficiently forcefully, can be used to split a defence. It can also be used as a simple long pass. Keeping the ball low on the ground makes it easier for a team mate to run on to.
Tips & drills
Make sure you’re kicking the ball with the right part of your foot. You won’t get power and distance if you don’t use the laces of your boot.
