What it looks like

Turning » Outside hook turn

How?

“The Outside hook (drag swerve) turn a simple skill to master, but looks great when done well. When dribbling with the ball, let the outside edge of one foot guide the ball outwards at right angles to your direction of travel. Then, as you’re doing this, turn your body so it’s following your foot and be on your way. Your marker should be on your outside the whole time, so you’re turning away from her and shielding the ball with your body.”

Why?

This skill is most appropriate for keeping your body between the ball and your opponent. So if your marker approaches from the front on your left, use the outside edge of your right foot to guide the ball outwards and back, then you can either dribble on or pass back to a team mate.

Tips & drills

As well as looking at the ball, try to keep an eye on where your marker is too.
